September 25, 1944— March 11, 2026
Long Prairie, MN
Judy Werner, age 81, of Long Prairie, passed away unexpectedly at her home on March 11, 2026.
Born Judy Schultz on September 25, 1944, in Minneapolis, she was the daughter of Melbert and Donna (Pankonin) Schultz. She attended school in both Minneapolis and Long Prairie before graduating from high school in Minneapolis. On February 9, 1963, she married James Werner. Together they had three children, Mary, Robert, and Lynn. Though their marriage ended in divorce, Judy and James remained lifelong friends, continuing to support one another and stay involved in the lives of their immediate and extended family. She cherished the family reunions they shared.
Judy worked at Peterson Variety Store and Holiday Village before retiring in 2007 from Dan’s Prize, where she was one of the original nine employees. She took great pride in a job well done and approached life with the belief that things should be done right the first time. An active woman who loved the outdoors, she was meticulous in the care of her lawn and yard. Deeply grounded in her Christian faith, Judy made it a priority to read scripture and stay informed on current events. Her church family at Trinity Lutheran Church was very important to her. With a humble, kind, and sometimes strict spirit, she remained actively involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, for whom family was something she carried deeply in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melbert and Donna Schultz; sisters Pat and Marsha; brothers-in-law Bill Grecula and Ed Treseler; and her former husband, James Werner.
Judy is survived by her children, Mary Conrade, Robert (Anita) Werner of Long Prairie, and Lynn (Pat) Lamusga of Browerville; sisters Sandy Grecula of Bloomington, Kim (Mike) Huttner of Savage, and Sherri Treseler of Coon Rapids; grandchildren Kristin (Miguel) Ambriz, Michael Steinert, Abigail Lamusga, and Patsy (Jake) Fredendall; great-grandchildren Alexandra, Brandon, Emily, and Marina; and step-granddaughters Julie (Jim) Kempenich, Jennifer (Tim) Waddell, and step-grandson Wyatt Kempenich.
