Judy passed away surrounded by her loving family after a brief hospitalization. She was born in Canton, Ohio to the late Charles and Thelma (Gilmore) Sanford. Judy was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School in Canton, Ohio in Cosmetology. She started her career as a hairdresser at Frank’s Coiffeur Hair Salon and then moved on to working for Dick Bosworth Beauty Salon in Massillon, Ohio. Judy was committed to making her clients, friends, and family look their best!
Judy married the love of her life, the late Gust G. Mossides, on July 16, 1962 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received The Sacrament of Holy Confirmation to become a Greek Orthodox Christian at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Massillon, Ohio in March of 1963. Judy and Gust raised their three children in Massillon, Ohio, where they were longtime residents. She had a deep commitment to God and her faith. She was a member of The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society at Saint George. Judy devoted over 63 years of dedicated service to Saint George.
Judy’s pride and joy were her three children, six grandchildren and new-born great-granddaughter. She loved being part of their lives as they grew and established their own lives and families. She was known as Yia-Yia by her grandchildren. Judy loved to cook and bake Greek foods and pastries for her family and friends. She so enjoyed meeting her good friends for breakfast several times each week.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Thelma Sanford; husband, Gust G. Mossides; mother and father in-law (Helen and George Mossides); sister and brother in-law (Marjorie and Richard Everhart); sister and brother in-law (Susan and Richard Piero); sister in-law and brother in-law (Constance and Harry Mizer); brother in-law (Samuel Misali) and niece (Robin Everhart).
She is survived by her three children: Lisa (Michael) Gillogly, George (Pamela) Mossides, and Nicholas (Cara) Mossides. She had six grandchildren: Andrew and Alec Gillogly, Gust (Anesa) Mossides (great-granddaughter, Lana Ann Mossides), Olivia Mossides (fiancé, Jon), and Maximos and Aristotle Mossides, one sister in-law, Mary Jean Misali and many nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 5-7pm with a private family Trisagion Service at Paquelet Funeral Home located at 1100 Wales Rd. NE, Massillon Ohio 44646.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 10:30am. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, with Rev. Fr. Spyridon Kehayes located at 364 1st Street SE, Massillon, Ohio 44646. A one-hour visitation will be held from 9:30am-10:30am, prior to funeral services. Burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery.
