Judith Kay Nolting, 78, passed away on March 16, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa, after a courageous battle with Bulbar ALS. She was born on December 17, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa to Orville and LaVonne Nolting. Judy graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1966. During her time in high school, she was an accomplished tennis player. Judy was a three-time Iowa state high school tennis doubles champion, including the 1966 title when she competed alongside her sister.In 1969, Judy began her career with the United States Postal Service in Waterloo. She was one of the first female letter carriers in the Waterloo area, paving the way for many women who followed. Judy dedicated 35 years to the postal service before retiring in 2004.In her free time, Judy loved tending to her beautiful yard, hosting family holiday gatherings, organizing garage sales, and traveling.In 2021, Judy moved to Pleasant Hill, Iowa, to be closer to her family and to live alongside her sister. Family meant everything to Judy. She was known for her loyalty, strong spirit, and deep love for those around her.She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David, who was also diagnosed with ALS.Judy is survived by her forever best friend, loyal caretaker, traveling companion, and beloved sister, Debra Fagerlind; her sister-in-law, Terri Nolting; her niece, Kim Fagerlind; her great nephew, Austin Boyd (Sadie Boyd); her great niece, McKenna Ward (Tyler Ward); and many beloved great-great nieces and nephews: Drew, Ruby, Arlo, and Warren.Judy was always considered a bonus mom to Kim and a grandma and great-grandma figure to the younger generations of her family. Her love, humor, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.Family and friends are welcome to join us for a Celebration of Life at Steamboat Gardens (1740 Falls Ave, Waterloo, IA 50701) on Saturday, March 28, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We would love to share memories, laughs, and some tenderloins and onion rings in honor of Judy.
