Juan M. Hernandez

Juan "Shorty" M. Hernandez, 78, of Eau Claire, Michigan, died peacefully on March 7, 2026, in Niles, Michigan. Born on October 11, 1947, in Del Rio, Texas, he was the son of Jose P. and Concepcion (Ortiz) Hernandez. He graduated from San Felipe High School in Del Rio in 1967.

After high school, Juan worked as a migrant farm laborer before settling in southwestern Michigan, where he held factory positions and later built a career as an HVAC technician at Dowagiac Heating and Air until his retirement. It was during his time as a farm laborer that he met the love of his life, Maria G. Quiroz. The couple married and made their home in Eau Claire, celebrating 54 years of marriage this past May.

Predeceased by his parents and a sister, Cristina, Juan is survived by his wife, Maria (Quiroz) Hernandez; his son, Juan M. Hernandez Jr. (Jennifer) of South Bend, Indiana; two grandchildren, Madyson B. Carrico (Andrew) of South Bend, Indiana, and Evan D. Hernandez (Savannah) of Cassopolis, Michigan; a great-granddaughter, Eloise A. Carrico; two brothers, Ricardo O. Hernandez (Maria) and Estevan O. Hernandez (Liliana), both of Del Rio, Texas; and many nephews and nieces.

His kindness, strength, and warmth touched every corner of our lives, and his memory will continue to guide his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
