Joyce Fay "Stone" Godwin

Joyce Fay Stone Godwin, age 87, of Coats, passed away on March 6, 2026. Born on October 4, 1938, in Harnett County to the late Herman and Dolly Nordan Stone, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford “C.J.” Godwin.

After high school, Joyce married C.J., and together they raised two sons while making their home in Dunn. Their marriage was marked by a special and unique bond. Over the years, she worked in the shirt factory in Dunn, in the canteen at Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, and later as a CNA, retiring from the Carrolton Nursing Center in Dunn.

In her younger years, Joyce and C.J. kept a trailer at Carolina Beach, where she cherished sunny days and her golden summer tan. She frequently traveled to Florida to visit her sister Ann and enjoyed trips to Disney World. A devoted mother and grandmother, she loved gathering family and friends, always greeting them with a warm smile and preparing generous meals that she insisted others take home. Her dream was to open a soup kitchen one day to feed those less fortunate. A kind, giving soul who loved the Lord, Joyce faithfully attended Fairhaven Church of God in Benson and quietly helped many, including her sons’ friends as they were growing up.

She is survived by her sons, Michael “Mike” Godwin (Patricia) of Coats and Randy Godwin of Coats; granddaughters Amanda Keefer (Russ) and Kayla Creech (Jason); great-grandchildren Savannah Keefer, Elizabeth Keefer, Adalade Creech, Amelia Creech, and Ivan Creech; sisters Louise Williams and Ann Gregory; and brother Dick Stone. She was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
