Joyce Ellen Fasig
June 22, 1942— March 8, 2026
Rice Lake, WI
Joyce Ellen Fasig, born Joyce Ellen Young on June 22, 1942, in Lebanon, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 8, 2026. She moved with her family as a child to Martinsville, Illinois, where she grew up and attended school. It was there, during high school, that she met John Fasig, the captain of the football team, while she cheered on the sidelines. Their youthful connection blossomed into a deep and enduring love. They married in 1960, just one day before her 18th birthday, and shared 63 wonderful years together.
The couple began their life in Sandwich, Illinois, where they welcomed their three children, Julie, Janice, and John. They later moved to Eldridge, Iowa, before embarking on an international chapter when John’s work with Caterpillar took them to Jakarta, Indonesia. Joyce embraced life overseas, becoming an active member of the American Club and delighting in hosting gatherings and parties for friends old and new. After two years in Bangalore, India, they returned to the United States and eventually settled in Martinsville, where their home became a beloved gathering place for family reunions, bean suppers, and celebrations.
Later in life, Joyce and John enjoyed winters at Green Gate Grove in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, where she served as director of activities and was affectionately known as the “queen” of the swimming pool and hot tub. She could often be seen driving her golf cart through the neighborhood, waving and chatting with everyone. The couple was even crowned King and Queen of the park and proudly participated in the Rio Grande Valley parade. In 2022, they moved to Rice Lake, Wisconsin, to be near their grandchildren and made their home at Woodstone Senior Living.
Joyce is survived by her husband John, their children Julie, Janice, and John, seven grandchildren—Jeremiah Costello, Jason Kennedy, Kyle Costello, Cameron Costello, Austin Millican, Jessica Letner, and June Fasig—and sixteen great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her vibrant, outgoing spirit, her love of bringing people together, and the many friendships she cherished throughout her life. She found joy in Elvis, margaritas, fishing, swimming, cheering for her favorite basketball teams, and planning the next adventure or road trip.
