Joyce Denton

Joyce Denton, 69, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee, passed away on March 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 20, 1956, to Rex and Bernice Isaacs in Banner Elk, North Carolina, she grew up on Buck Mountain, attending a two-room school through sixth grade before graduating from Cloudland High School in 1974. On May 31, 1975, she married Terry Denton at High Point Baptist Church in Roan Mountain. The couple spent four years in Altus, Oklahoma, while Terry served in the United States Air Force, with Joyce providing steadfast support. They returned to Roan Mountain in 1979, where she worked as a dental assistant in Elizabethton.

Deeply committed to her faith, Joyce served her church for many years as an organist and pianist, led music for the youth group, and helped with Vacation Bible School. After her children left home, she devoted herself to her passion for art, creating with wood burning, leather work, and transforming discarded bottles and creek finds into unique pieces. Above all, her life centered on her love for Jesus Christ and her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Terry; sons Isaac and Caleb; daughter Tryphena; brother Donnie Isaacs; sister Pam Whisenhunt; and nine grandchildren.
