Joyce Ann “Joy” Derrick, née Osborne, age 89, of Warrenville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on March 12, 2026. Born on August 21, 1936, in Aurora, Illinois, she had lived in Warrenville since 1958.
Joy was the beloved wife of the late Elbert H. “Al” Derrick, whom she married on February 15, 1958. She was a devoted mother to Lori (Mike) Comer of Edgar Springs, Missouri, Lisa Doyle of Warrenville, Pam (Pete) Peterson of Lisle, Kathy Derrick of Woodridge, and Chris (Melody) Derrick of Wheaton. She was the adored grandmother of Brandon (Sheyenne Hearn) Doyle, Kirsten Doyle, Ryan Doyle, Lindsey Doyle, Alex Fterniatis, Melina (Kyle) Green, Christopher (fiancée Megan Molkentine), Chelsea (Mike) Yorke, Bradley Martin, Faith Derrick, and David Derrick, and the cherished great-grandmother of Julian, Braxton, Brooklyn, Avery, Amari, James, Julia, and Siddhartha. She was the devoted daughter of the late Ann (née Osborne) Wondrak and is survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
An accountant by profession, Joy worked at Vern Kiebler Electronics in Wheaton and later at the Heritage YMCA on Washington Street and the Fry Family YMCA on 95th Street, both in Naperville. A woman of quiet faith, she was a longtime member of Grace Church of DuPage in Warrenville, where she actively participated in the Ladies Bible Study and Widows groups.
Joy cherished time with her family above all else, especially attending her grandchildren’s concerts and sporting events. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Al, particularly to Mexico, as well as gardening, reading, shopping, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, steadfast love for her family, and the many lives she touched with her kindness.
