Josie Duncan

Josie Duncan, born June 16, 1923, in the Richlands Community of Caldwell County, North Carolina, to Thomas and Mary (Holden) Chandler, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Lenoir, North Carolina. A devoted homemaker, she created a warm and loving home that reflected her nurturing spirit and deep commitment to family. Though her formal education was limited, her wisdom, kindness, and gentle presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Pinkney Duncan, and her sons, Marshall Duncan and his wife Virginia, and Richard Duncan. Josie is survived by her children, Sheila Shimpock and husband John Thomas, Timothy Duncan and wife Barbara, and Roger Duncan and wife Clara; her grandchildren, Melody Ammerman, Toni Duncan, Lori Glassey, Michelle Shimpock, and John Thomas Shimpock IV; as well as her great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Those who loved Josie will remember her for the comfort and care she brought to her home and the quiet strength she showed throughout her long life. Her memory will remain a cherished part of all whose lives she touched.
