Josephine Gillespie

Pittsburgh, PA

Josephine Gillespie, a woman of immense strength, boundless energy, and a heart dedicated to her community, passed away peacefully at her home on March 8, 2026.

Born on June 5, 1958, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Josephine was the cherished daughter of the late Reverend Pastor Jonas Gillespie and the late Pastor Evangelist Viola E. Sewell Gillespie. Raised in a household grounded in faith, she grew into a resilient and hardworking woman. She attended school in Pittsburgh and Farrell before graduating from George Westinghouse High School in 1976. She continued her education at Allegheny Community College, where she earned professional certifications that supported her career.

Josephine was the founder and lead sanitation specialist of JG Cleaning Services, LLC, where she earned a reputation for excellence and meticulous care. She also served as a supervisor in the dietary department for The Nutrition Group at Saint Benedict the Moor in the Hill District. Though small in stature, she carried a powerful presence, known for her strong work ethic, direct honesty, and integrity. She loved to dance, possessed a lively sense of humor, and took great pleasure in cooking and sharing meals with others. She volunteered many hours with Homewood Community Sports, supporting her grandsons and giving back to the neighborhood she loved.

Above all, Josephine’s greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Araina Graham, and her three wonderful grandsons, Hasaan Ismaeli, Yasair Ismaeli, and Zahir Ismaeli, all of Pittsburgh. She also leaves behind her siblings, Deacon Barbara Crosby, Reverend Darlene Ford (H. Curtis Ford), and Jonas E. Gillespie, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
