Josephine Fanucchi

1923 — 2026

Chicago, IL

Josephine Fanucchi, aged 102, born December 11, 1923, in Lucca, Italy, died peacefully at home on March 11, 2026. She had lived on Altgeld Street in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood since her family immigrated from Italy in 1925. A longtime hairdresser, Josephine cared for the ladies of her local community, many of whom were fellow parishioners.

She is survived by her beloved son, James Fanucchi, and his family, who remained by her side in the home she had occupied her entire life. Josephine was known for her resilient mind, her deep devotion to her faith, and her love for three generations of family. For many years she collected and gave donations to St. Bonaventure Parish and faithfully hosted St. Joseph’s tables. Those who knew her will always remember the remarkable stories she shared of her ten decades in the United States.

She is now reunited with her parents, Oreste and Settima Papucci, her siblings Nella Parenti, Sam Papucci, and Elio Papucci, her cherished husband Geno Fanucchi, and her dear daughter Jeanne Wehrheim, who welcomed her home.
