Josephine Adelaide Mitchell
April 24, 1925— March 11, 2026
Worland, WY
Adelaide "Addie" Mitchell, 100, passed away peacefully at her home in Worland, Wyoming, surrounded by her family on March 11, 2026. Born on April 24, 1925, in a log cabin in Alum Bank, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Joseph and Madolin (Boorse) Taylor. Raised in a home centered on faith and education, with her parents serving as ministers and educators, Addie excelled academically, skipping two grades and graduating early. She grew up alongside her brothers, Dick and Emery.
Addie’s life was shaped by her deep musical talent and steadfast Christian faith. A gifted vocalist and pianist who also played the vibraharp and other instruments, she began traveling internationally with a women’s musical group shortly after graduation, where she met her husband, Lloyd Edward Mitchell. Together they served as commissioned evangelists with the Church of the Nazarene, forming the “Musical Mitchells” as their family grew. For decades they traveled across the United States, sharing their ministry while nurturing close ties to family in Pennsylvania. Addie was cherished for her gentle spirit, her creative flannel-graph storytelling for children, and her remarkable resilience. With little material wealth, she skillfully provided for her family, often creating meals from simple ingredients and hand-crocheting treasured gifts for every occasion. She found joy in cooking, baking, gardening, reading—especially the Bible, which she read through countless times—and staying connected with others, even turning to audio versions in her later years when her eyesight failed.
Above all, Addie poured herself into her family. She raised eight children with unwavering love and later helped raise many of her grandchildren, offering them the same generous care and attention. She embraced her sons- and daughters-in-law as her own, loving them without reservation. Her example of great love, gratitude, and grace touched everyone who knew her, leaving a legacy that continues through the lives of those she cherished.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Madolin Taylor; her husband, Lloyd Edward Mitchell; her brothers, Palmer and Richard Taylor; her daughter-in-law, Janie Mitchell; and her son-in-law, John Williams. Addie is survived by her children, Paul Mitchell, Leona (Craig) Marquis, Lloyd (Pegi) Mitchell, Rick (Trish) Mitchell, Ed (Bonnie) Mitchell, Loyanne Mock, Addie Pratt, and Mona Williams; 33 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
