Joseph Wayne Cox, age 78, of the Stoney Point community, passed away on March 6, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 14, 1947, he graduated from Chesbrough High School in the Class of 1967. Soon after, Wayne joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era, serving as an airplane mechanic in Hawaii until completing his service in 1972. He later worked for many years as a cross-country truck driver, hauling chemical tankers throughout the country. A longtime member of Stoney Point Missionary Baptist Church, Wayne maintained an extensive coin collection built over nearly a lifetime. He found great joy in playing dominoes and Rook, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he loved tending his garden. He also cherished barbecuing and sharing homemade ice cream with those he held dear, treasuring every moment spent with family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dee Mansfield Cox; daughters and sons-in-law Wendy and Timothy Coyle, and Becky Ann Cox and James Watts; son and daughter-in-law DeWayne and Cheri Cox; grandchildren and their spouses Caleb and Kelsie Graham, Jesse and Shelby Graham, Brittany and Cody Coniglio, Cameron Cox, and Barrett Watts; great-grandchildren Chase Graham, Aubrey Coniglio, Lucas Graham, Caroline Graham, and Ada Rae Graham; brother and sister-in-law Kinell and Nancy Cox; sisters Terry Cox Smart, Ronnie Cothern, and Becky Fitzpatrick; sister-in-law Alvie Cox; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Cox and Eloise McDaniel Cox; brother Wilvie Cox; brother and sister-in-law Harold and Jean Cox; his grandparents; and other family members.
