Joseph Wallace Gerst, 37, of York, Pennsylvania, passed away surrounded by love on March 12, 2026. Born in York, Joe possessed a warm smile that could light up any room and a steadfast loyalty to those he held dear. He graduated from Hereford High School and built a fulfilling career as a chef, taking great pride in his work at the Baltimore Country Club, where he cherished the colleagues and community he found there.
Above all, Joe was a devoted father, loving son, partner, and friend. His greatest joy was his daughter, Joella Gerst-Webber, whom he loved beyond measure. He also shared a special bond with Julie’s son, Jaxson Wilhelm, and treasured the time they spent together as a family. Joe was an avid fan of sprint cars and a passionate sports enthusiast who followed Penn State football as well as the Boston Red Sox, Green Bay Packers, and Philadelphia Flyers—traditions that brought his loved ones together.
Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his daughter, Joella Gerst-Webber; Julie Webber, the mother of his child, and her son, Jaxson Wilhelm; his grandmother, Shirley “Mamaw” Kline; his father, Joseph Wallace Gerst, and stepmother, Crystal Propst Gerst; his half-sister, Stacy Krout; his uncle, John Kline and wife Jennifer Kline; and his cousins, Katie and Shaun Kline. A private family service will be held.
