Threston Joseph T., Jr. A longtime Cinnaminson resident, passed away on March 4, 2026 at the age of 90 after an illness. Born on September 20, 1935, in Wilkes-Barre, the only child of Joseph and Esther Threston, Mr. Threston moved to Philadelphia as a child. He graduated from North Catholic High School and then attended Villanova University, graduating in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Threston then attended the University of Southern California on a fellowship with Hughes Aircraft, obtaining his master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1959. He later pursued further graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. After his graduation from Southern Cal, Mr. Threston began a 38-year career at RCA in Moorestown, which later became General Electric, Martin Marietta, and finally Lockheed Martin. Much of Mr. Threston's career focused on the creation, development, and implementation of the AEGIS radar defense system, which he oversaw during his long tenure as Director of Naval Systems. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Threston held the title of Chief Executive of the facility in Moorestown, overseeing all operations there. After retirement, Mr. Threston provided his expertise as a consultant to Lockheed Martin for many years. Mr. Threston was a devoted Catholic, serving as a lector at Sacred Heart Parish, Riverton for 60 years and as a Eucharistic Minister. He was married to the love of his life, Jean Threston (nee Kochler) for over 65 years, having met her during their college years when they worked together at Lit Brothers in Center City Philadelphia. He resided in Cinnaminson with his family for over 60 years, raising his children there. Throughout his life, but particularly after his retirement, Mr. Threston and his wife traveled the world, visiting every continent. When his children were younger, Mr. Threston shared his love of travel, taking them on several summertime crossing the United States and Canada. Mr. Threston and his family were particularly fond of Maine, where they had a house in Cundy's Harbor, entertaining friends there throughout the past 40 years. Mr. Threston is survived by his wife, Jean; his children Anne (Bruce Macke), Joseph III (Lisa), and Christopher, and his grandson, Christopher Threston, Jr., as well as many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Threston and Esther Threston. Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Sacred Heart Church, 4th Street and Linden Avenue, Riverton, NJ from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M., followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, 1300 Route 130 North, Cinnaminson.
