Joseph Ryan James
February 20, 1982— March 11, 2026
O'Fallon, MO
Joseph Ryan James, son of John Martin James and Jeannie LouAnn James, was born on February 20, 1982, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He passed away on March 11, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital at the age of 44.
A 2000 graduate of Flippin High School, Joseph went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 2006. He worked for St. Charles County as a Park Planner for nearly 13 years, where he played a meaningful role in the creation of several beloved local parks, including Veterans Tribute Park, Kinetic Park, The Park at New Melle Lakes, and Oglesby Park. He was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Missouri Parks Association.
Joseph was a man of many dimensions: a devoted Christian who attended The Crossing at Chesterfield, a talented artist, a skilled billiards player, an avid golfer, and a passionate sports fan who could often be heard cheering loudly from the stands at his sons’ games. He loved calling the Hogs, playing in pool leagues, participating in fantasy football, and spending time with family and friends. Above all, he was known for his quick wit, his gift for storytelling, and his talent for the perfect prank, especially on April Fools’ Day. He was a patient, dependable, and deeply loving father who adored his two boys.
Joseph is survived by his mother, Jeannie LouAnn James of Flippin, Arkansas; his sons, Ethan James and Owen James of O’Fallon, Missouri; the boys’ mother and his friend, Kristal Burns of O’Fallon, Missouri; his sister, Brooke Lacey and her husband Kevin of Eureka, Missouri; his nieces, Samantha Lacey and Annabelle Lacey; and many other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John Martin James. His humor, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
