February 9, 1930— March 9, 2026
Concord, NC
Joseph Pinkney Misenheimer Jr., 96, of Concord, passed away on March 9, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones. Born on February 9, 1930, in North Carolina to the late Lillie Talbert Misenheimer and Joseph Pinkney Misenheimer Sr., he carried the warmth and love of his humble upbringing throughout his long life. Known for his kindness, quick wit, and boundless energy, Joseph graduated from Concord High School in 1950 and remained deeply devoted to his community, family, and the Boston Red Sox.
He served in the Air Force, with postings in Anchorage, Alaska, and Rome, New York, before returning home and joining the Concord Fire Department in 1955, following in his father’s footsteps. He retired as Assistant Fire Chief in 1988 after more than three decades of service, often speaking with pride about his fellow firefighters and the stories they shared. Joseph remained active in retirement, quietly helping those in need by mowing lawns, supporting the community food truck, and assisting with his church’s Friday hot dog sales. A longtime member of Kerr Street United Methodist Church, he faithfully led his family there each Sunday.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah Sapp Misenheimer; his son, Joseph “Joey” Misenheimer III; his daughters, Francis Woods and Tammy Lee Misenheimer; his brother, Gene Misenheimer and wife Mildred; and his sister, Margaret Lackey and husband Leon Lackey.
Joseph leaves behind his sisters, Betty Morgan, Janie Washam, and Nancy Farris; granddaughters Tammy Nance, Brandi Misenheimer-Brill, Ashley Phillips, and Courtney Hucks; and his cherished great-grandchildren: Lauren Woods; Makayla and Breanna Nance; Tyler, Harper, and Norah Brill; Costa and Denver Phillips; and Skylyn, Cartier, and June Manley. Known affectionately as “Paw-Paw,” he touched the lives of all who knew him with his steady presence and generous spirit.
