Joseph Patrick Philbin, age 89, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home after cardiac complications on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Born to the late Patrick Joseph Philbin and Bridget McNulty Philbin of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Joe was the beloved brother of the late Jack Philbin, Mary Schultz, and Ann Ludwig. He was a devoted father to Colleen Licursi, Patrick Joseph Philbin, Maureen McMahan, Kathleen Hugebeck, the late Jack Clark, and William Clark. He cherished his many grandchildren, including Nick Licursi, Officer Laura Licursi, Gina Piscone, Andrew Philbin, Alexander Philbin, Aaron Philbin, Lieutenant Colonel USAF Bridget Pantaleon, Megan Maurer, Joseph Anthony Colombo, Ashley Ann Colombo, Candice Columbo, Elise Legleitner, Janos Hugebeck, Attila Hugebeck, and Christian Hugebeck, along with 24 great-grandchildren, two more on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A proud member of the Irish Catholic community, Joe was known for his steadfast love of sports, particularly The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, even while living among Georgia fans. As one of the original tenants of Atlanta’s Merchandise Mart, he brought his gregarious spirit and quick sense of humor to every interaction. His warmth and lively character left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is remembered fondly by his large and loving family, who will carry forward the legacy of his faith, humor, and devotion.
