Joseph Morris Hackney

Joseph Morris Hackney, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Eads, Tennessee on March 6, 2026. Born in Gallatin, Tennessee to the late Joseph G. Hackney and his wife, Joe lived a life defined by quiet service to his family, community, and country. He served in both the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard before devoting 32 years to the Memphis Police Department. Above all, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and steadfast friend whose calm presence brought comfort and joy to everyone he encountered.

Joe found simple pleasure in the rhythms of daily life. He enjoyed working on his tractor, tinkering in the garage, and caring for his cars. Neighbors often saw him mowing the lawn, always ready to pause and offer a friendly wave. He cherished road trips with his family, attending street rod competitions, and spending peaceful hours at his favorite fishing spots. These outings remained among his most treasured moments.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his sons, Joe and Matthew; his daughter, Blair; his daughter-in-law, Bella; and his son-in-law, Travis. Joe was a proud grandfather to Micaela, Taylor, Olivia, and Ella, who brought him endless joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Johnson, and brother-in-law, Sammy.

Joe’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the love, humor, and friendship he offered throughout his life.
