Joseph Mastellar ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Bunnell Funeral Home Inc - Millville on Mar. 17, 2026.Joseph L. Mastellar, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 16, 2026. Born on June 28, 1943, in Benton, son of the late Lee and Daisy (Fraley) Mastellar. He attended Millville High School, graduating with the class of 1961. After graduating from high school he went to Penn State Hazelton where he majored in electrical engineering, a field that suited his precise and analytical mind. Joe was drafted and served during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army Airborne Unit. In the military, he was known for his sharp intellect, teaching signal school at Fort Gordon. On March 9, 1974, Joe married the love of his life, the former Diane G. Derk. Together, they celebrated 52 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Their union was blessed with four children: Joseph M. Mastellar (Shannon), Kelly L. Mastellar (Jason D. Schondra), Jason E. Mastellar (Abby), and Joshua L. Mastellar (Kasey).Joe's professional life was marked by his tenure at Weis Foods in Berwick and his retirement from Conagra in Milton. An avid tinkerer, Joe could often be found working in his garage, his hands deftly bringing life back to objects that others may have discarded. His family would often say, "If Joe couldn't fix it, then it just needed to be thrown away," a sentiment that captured his handy and resourceful nature. His seven grandchildren, April, Liam, Hailey, Carley, Kinsley, Jacob, and Oakley, were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.Joe's interests extended beyond his garage; he had a love for roller skating, a hobby that serendipitously led him to meet Diane. He also enjoyed riding his tractors and was an active member of the New Sunrise Vision Church, formerly Pine Center, where he found a community of faith and fellowship.Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Talmar Cemetery. Family and friends may send online condolences to bunnellfuneralhome.com.
