Moraine, OH

Joseph Keith Hatcher, lovingly known as “Grandpa Joe,” was born on April 12, 1940, and passed away on March 7, 2026. He lived a full life centered on family, community, and a lifelong dedication to the grocery business that spanned more than five decades.

From the age of twelve, Joe displayed a remarkable work ethic, beginning by sweeping the parking lot at Stragands Market. He went on to own Hatcher's Food Center until 1991, after which he pursued additional business ventures, including Joey's Doughey's Doughnut Factory. A proud graduate of Fairmont West High School, he was also inducted into the West Carrollton High School Athletic Hall of Fame, reflecting his deep love of sports and community involvement.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe was cherished for his infectious smile, warm personality, and exceptional gift as a storyteller. He served as the voice of Pirate Softball and dedicated nineteen seasons as its scorekeeper, forging lasting connections with players and families through his engaging presence and support. An avid Cincinnati Reds fan, his passion for sports was matched by his profound devotion to his family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice Hatcher; children Doug (Karen) Hatcher and Debbie (Rick) Mays; grandchildren Rachael Hatcher, Stacey (Chris) Koontz, Dennis Mays, and Ashley (James) Hyland; great-grandchildren Hayden and Riley Hyland; and many other loving family members and friends. He was predeceased by his son Dennis Hatcher, parents Mildred and Joseph Hatcher, and sister Elaine (Don) Lochner. A respected Mason, charter member, and deacon of Miami Shores Baptist Church, Joe also served as a youth minister and helped establish the church’s Bus Ministry. His legacy of love, generosity, and laughter endures in everyone whose life he touched.
