Joseph Keegan

December 21, 1930 March 12, 2026

Phoenixville, PA

Joseph M. Keegan, known as Joe to many and Mike to his family, died on March 12, 2026, at the age of 95 in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, after a brief illness. Born on December 21, 1930, in Fernandina Beach, Florida, he was raised by his single mother, Margaret C. Keegan, alongside his older brother, Jim J. Keegan, late of Gardnerville, Nevada. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mike served a tour of duty in Greenland with the Air Force. He later graduated summa cum laude from Villanova University and, in 1958, married Sheila F. Sullivan. The couple shared 62 years of marriage until her passing in 2020.

Mike built a distinguished career in federal service, with postings in Washington, D.C., Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and finally Naples, Italy, where he retired in 1993. He was deeply committed to lifelong learning, an avid reader who cherished lively discussion and debate. In his later years, he found joy in writing verses, which he shared with family and friends. An enthusiastic traveler, he and Sheila explored the world and returned often to Italy, a place they both loved. Active throughout his long life, Mike maintained a strong commitment to fitness and wholesome, enjoyable nutrition.

He is survived by his children, Michael J. Keegan and his husband, Kimberly; Christopher J. Keegan and his husband, Audrey; and Patricia E. Keegan and her husband, David Biddison. His oldest child, Sheila M. Keegan, predeceased him in 2025. Mike is also survived by his grandchildren, Evan, Julianna, and Elyse Keegan, children of Chris and Audrey, and Saige Biddison, daughter of Tricia and Dave.
