He was a resident at the Converse Home in Burlington, Vermont where he was cared for by the loving GardenView staff.Joe lived his life guided by a strong character. He was honest, faithful to his principals, and hard-working. He was persistent in everything he did.He was born March 1, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Joseph George Zagursky and Sophie Sefcik, immigrants from Slovakia who believed in hard work, family and Catholicism.Joe graduated from Regis High School in NY in 1956. He received his Electrical Engineering Degree from Manhattan College in 1960, and his Master's Degree from Syracuse University.In 1961, Joe and Peggy Doonan were married at St. Patrick's Church in Brooklyn, NY. They moved to Poughkeepsie, NY, where they welcomed their son and two daughters into the world.In 1968, the family moved to Shelburne, Vermont. Joe enjoyed a 35-year career working for IBM, in Essex Junction, as a Development Engineer in Advanced Memory Production Technology. His focus was on semi-conductor customer satisfaction, and he contributed to a U.S. Patent for the invention of addressable storage locations for a memory protection system.Joe was an active member on many local boards, including the United Way of Chittenden County. He also ran for the Vermont State Senate.After retirement from IBM, Joe joined his good friend John Wycoff to help grow John's established payroll business in South Burlington. Joe thoroughly enjoyed the experience.In 1998, Joe and Peggy moved to Worthington Country Club in Bonita Springs, FL where they enjoyed entertaining family, playing golf and bridge and spending time traveling extensively with dear friends.At Worthington, Joe took great pride creating a Men's Bible Study Group with his dear friend Frank Nelson. The group grew to 25 members and continues today.Joe was active in community affairs, heavily engaged in Worthington facility's Clubhouse renovation and involved in the Bonita Springs Republican Party.Joe leaves behind his wife Peggy, high school sweetheart, the love of his life and spouse of 64 years, and his loving children Joseph Zagursky (Angela), Jeanne Zagursky and Anne Anderson (Shane). He was a proud and loving grandfather to four grandsons, Cameron and Jack Zagursky, and Liam and Ryan Anderson. He is predeased by his sister Irene Polasek, nieces Karen and Christina Polasek, cousin Arlene Yanotta and extended family.He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Regis High School "in memory of Joseph J.
