Joseph Howard Garland

Joseph Howard Garland, age 86, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on March 14, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born on September 10, 1939, in Lawrence County, Tennessee, Joseph attended the Lawrence County School System. He served two years in the United States Army and was married to his wife, Glenda Garland, for sixty-two years. He worked as a Master Welder at Columbia Machine Works for forty-nine years, retiring on September 2, 2016. Joseph found great joy in the outdoors, where he gardened, fished, hunted, and attended races, especially alongside his family. A man of deep faith, he was a longtime member of Highland Park Baptist Church in Columbia.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Walters Garland; his daughter, Vicky (Adam) Marshall; three grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Marshall, Chelsea (Trever) Smith, and Joseph Cameron Marshall; and two great-grandchildren, Kinsley Marshall and Karsen Marshall. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Doris Garland and Shirley Garland, along with many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Angela Garland; his parents, George Lasson Garland and Lillie Beatrice Self Garland; his five siblings, Lucille Gray, James Garland, JW Garland, Charles Garland, and Ray Garland; his nephew, Joel Garland; and his niece, Sharon Norwood.
