Naples, FL
Dr. Joseph Francis Schneider, Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong learner, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, in Naples, Florida, at the age of 83.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Kathryn Schneider, Jeff was the eldest of five children, with four sisters: Betsy, Barbara, Kathy, and Marie. From an early age, he showed a profound curiosity and love of learning that guided his remarkable life. He attended Saint Joseph’s Prep and Saint Joseph’s College, where he majored in physics, later earning a master’s degree in systems engineering and operations research from the University of Pennsylvania. He began his career at GE’s Space Division in Philadelphia and later worked in La Jolla, California, specializing in earthquake research.
Jeff married his beloved wife, Sharon, and together they raised three children: Joe, Deborah, and David. Driven by a desire to grow and make a difference, he pursued a second career in medicine, earning his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completing his residency at Harvard University. He became a highly respected radiation oncologist, practicing in Huntsville, Alabama, for over 20 years, where he was surrounded by a large community of friends.
After retiring, Jeff moved to Naples, Florida, where he spent the past 13 years enjoying the area he loved. He had lifelong passions for music, art, travel, cooking, wine, and discussions about politics and world affairs. Above all, he cherished time with his family, taking pride in his role as a loving father and grandfather to five grandchildren. Even while facing health challenges in later years, Jeff met life with courage, resilience, and optimism, inspiring all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, his three children and their spouses, five grandchildren, and his four sisters. Jeff led a remarkable life and will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
