Joseph F. Schwartz

Joseph F. Schwartz of Altoona, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2026, at the age of 89. Born and raised in Etna Borough near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the beloved husband of Shirley Ann Schwartz (Daniels) for more than 66 years. He was a devoted father to his sons, Eric (Celeste) Schwartz of Farmington Hills, Michigan, and Darren (Christine) Schwartz of Royal Oak, Michigan, and a proud grandfather to Christopher, Alexandra, Kevin, Ava, and Gavin. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Carl Dell of Mentor, Ohio, his sister-in-law Rose Daniels of Etna, Pennsylvania, and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was a standout football player at Etna High School before serving in the U.S. Army as a military policeman with the 82nd Airborne Division. He spent his career as a warehouse manager and was well known for his skilled masonry work and ambitious home renovation projects, often lending his talents even when visiting family. To his loved ones he was affectionately known as “Minnow,” and he was never happier than when he was in the water, whether at the beach or floating in a pool.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Caroline Schwartz-Jaronski, and his siblings Veronica (Vincent) Golobic, Anna (Zigmund) Kuznar, Dolores (Walter) Holderny, John (Dorothy) Schwartz Jr., William Schwartz, Caroline (Stephen) Karlik, Frances (John) Rodgers, Diana (William) Steinman, and Evelyn Dell.
