Joseph F. Cauterucci, Jr.

Joseph Francis Cauterucci, Jr., passed away on March 14, 2026, because "it was time". He was born over 101 years ago to Joseph Francis Cauterucci, Sr., who immigrated from San Sosti, Italy and Ameranda D'Avolio Cauterucci, who immigrated from Roggiano Gravina, Italy. Joe was the youngest of 4 with an older sister, Millie, and brother, Anthony Sr. (Rosa), and younger sister, Cipollini (Nunzio Limido). He was born in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia and graduated from Germantown High School. Because of his athletic baseball abilities, he became known as the "Germantown Slugger". Joe was drafted into the US Army and earned 5 bronze stars after spending 519 days on the front lines in WWII. Upon an honorable discharge, Joe graduated as a pharmacist from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. It is there that he met his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Geoghegan. Betty was a Chestnut Hill Girl who was the secretary for the Dean of the College. They were happily married for 58 years, until Betty passed away in 2007.Joe and Betty had 2 children, Gregory, Sr. (Margaret) and Mary Lee Shantz (Ted). Their grandchildren include Gregory, Jr. (Diana), Alex (Sarah) and Evan (Emilee) and 6 great grandchildren: Emma, Logan, Harper, Ella, Charlotte, and Hayley. Also notable are relatives, Rose (DiGiovanni), Anthony, Christopher, Steve, Ethan, Sam, and best friend Carl.Joe worked as a pharmacist for nearly 69 years. In his words, a noble profession dedicated to caring for people and their health. In his career, he owned 2 pharmacies, one in Germantown and the other in Trooper, PA. In between he worked in the pharmacy at Holy Redeemer Hospital. After retiring Joe became a vintner, a fabricator and musketeer (along with other pharmacists and war buddies). Perhaps Joe's most sacred responsibility has been the documentarian of the "Book" and keeper of the family Canerc. The Book, currently with 4 volumes, chronicles infractions, quite frequently imagined, committed by family and friends alike.For the last 40 years, Joe was often known as "Pop", far and wide. Those that knew Joe knew that he had 2 superpowers. The first is his uncanny ability to spark political debate out of mid- air. The second is his ability to forgive and forget, unconditionally.When asked on the occasion of his 100 th birthday what his motto for living has been, Joe's reply, "To serve God, Family and Country". But it also helps to eliminate fat, salt and sugar from your diet and no cheese whatsoever!Joe will survive in memory as an admired family patriarch, tireless provider, an endearing and indispensable husband, a decorated soldier, a healthcare professional, and a loyal friend.Joseph Francis Cauterucci, Jr., enjoyed a long, dedicated, and joyful life. One filled with love, both given and taken. By every measure as: a father, provider, mentor, friend and role model he succeeded.
