Freitas III, lovingly known as Joey, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 28, 2026, at the age of 67 in his care home in Porterville, California. Joey was born on April 15, 1958, in Hanford, California, to Joe C. Freitas Jr. and Shirley Ann Freitas. Joey enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved looking through magazines and watching television, especially movie musicals and music videos. He also enjoyed attending plays at the local theatre and school concert performances. Music brought Joey great joy, and he often danced and cheered on his roommates as they sang songs on the residents' karaoke player. Being outdoors was one of Joey's favorite pastimes. He enjoyed going for morning walks, sitting on the front patio, petting his favorite dog Sugar, and greeting the small children who came to visit the home. Joey especially loved going on scenic drives, happily pointing out everything he saw to whoever was in the car with him. His favorite part of those outings was stopping at a drive-thru to get milkshakes. Joey was preceded in death by his father, Joe C. Freitas Jr, and his grandparents, Jose C. Sr. and Maria A. Freitas, and Joe and Laura Perry. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Ann Freitas; his two sisters, Marie Mattos (Fernando) and Carol Hunt (Pat); and his beloved nieces and nephews: Christina (Saida), James (Amy), Natalie (Shane), Kevin (Ashley) Mattos, Breanna (Logan), and Christa (Darryl) Hunt. He is also survived by ten great-nieces and nephews, with one more on the way.The family would like to give special thanks to Fe Domingo and her staff for the excellent care they gave Joey. He thrived and was happy and healthy while under their loving care.
