Joseph Cleo "J.C." Hebert

Joseph Cleo “J.C.” Hebert, affectionately known as “Uncle Jay,” passed away on March 11, 2026, at his residence in New Iberia, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 88 years old.

Born on July 18, 1937, in New Iberia to the late Cleo and Josephine Hebert, J.C. was a lifelong resident of the city. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. After his military service, he worked for more than 40 years as a land surveyor with C.H. Fenstermaker before retiring. A devout Catholic, he remained a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League and a member of the Iberia Honor Guard.

J.C. was a devoted fan of LSU baseball and football, often attending games with his longtime friend Ronny Moore. He found joy in playing softball with the original Cajun Express team, traveling, and playing Bourré. Above all, he cherished his family and took great pride in being present for every milestone and event, creating lasting memories for those he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Clark Hebert; his children, Kim Decoux (Terry), Wanda Romero (Larry), Ashley Hebert (Corey Bourque), and Isabella Hebert; his stepchildren, Christina Payer (Russell), Leah Landry (Tristen Owens), Lon Landry (Pamela), and Kevin Landry, Sr. (Tonna); his sister, Janice Bourque; and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife Lena Boudreaux Hebert, his sisters Patsy Kennedy and Joann Hoffman, his step-grandson Matthew Romero, and his dear friends Benny Castille, Jerry Conrad, and Charles Norman.
