Joseph Charles Mathieu

Joseph Charles Mathieu passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 16, 2026. Born on November 25, 1947, to Nelson Joseph Mathieu and Rosanna Mathieu, he was drafted into the United States Army and served for two years. Charles earned a degree in welding and opened his own welding shop near his home. He found joy in spending time with family and friends, working at the Petroleum Club and Evangeline Maid Bread, and helping homeless people by baking bread for them.

Charles never married and had no children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Rosanna Mathieu, his sister Mary Helen Mathieu, and his aunts Beaulla Gilbert and Oliva Gilbert, as well as his uncles Alexson Mathieu, Wilson Mathieu, and Kent Mathieu. He leaves behind sixteen first cousins who will remember him fondly: Eva Dell Derouen, Jeanette Polite, Donald Matthews, Jacqueline Onezime, Rickey Matthews, Jimmy Matthews, Micheal Matthews, Agnes Guidry, Marylee Winn, Patricia Thomas, Lucille Charles, Genevieve Matthews, Alfreda Mathieu, Loann Moses, Paulette Mathieu, Ruth Thomas, and Ruby Jean-Louis.
