Joseph Allen LaRusso
July 7, 1934— March 2, 2026
Okauchee, WI
Joseph Allen LaRusso, Sr., age 91, passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 7, 1934 to Samuel and Josephine LaRusso, Joe was a man defined by his tireless work ethic and his unwavering “family first” philosophy. To ensure his family never went without, Joe often balanced three jobs at a time, modeling a level of dedication and sacrifice that will forever be his legacy.
Joe dedicated 35 years to Carnation, where he served with distinction as a Teamster steward and union leader. His leadership extended to the board of the Carnation Credit Union, where his integrity and insight were highly valued.
Beyond his primary career, Joe was a man of diverse talents, passions and humor. Long before “house flipping” became a household term, Joe began buying and remodeling homes in 1960. He was an exceptionally gifted remodeler who took great pride in transforming houses into homes. His commitment to his community was equally strong, serving for many years with the Oconomowoc Fire Department. Later in life, Joe reached a personal milestone by obtaining his G.E.D., proving that it is never too late to pursue one’s goals.
Joe also found joy behind the wheel of a school bus. He formed lasting bonds with the students on his route, and the children, in turn, held him in the highest respect. Joe’s personal life was filled with simple pleasures: camping trips with family, playing cards, and frequenting the casino. After many years residing in Las Vegas, Joe and his wife Joann returned home to be closer to family. An avid fan of John Wayne, Joe spent his final years finding comfort and enjoyment in the Duke’s classic films and more importantly, time spent with his family.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Joann LaRusso. His memory will be cherished by his children Joseph (Pam) LaRusso, Jr., Richard LaRusso, Tina Adkinson, Nicholas (Linda) LaRusso and Gina LaRusso; grandchildren Renee (Andrew) LaRusso, Matthew Adkinson, Rich (Jen) LaRusso, Jessica Adkinson, Nathan LaRusso, Danielle (Krys) Gukich, Samantha (Josh) Mosher and Brian LaRusso; great-grandchildren Chandler Adkinson, Kaidence Gromowski, Tyler Bisserssar, Baylee Gromowski, Madison Bisserssar, Easton Gromowski, Lainey LaRusso, Josh LaRusso, Hailey LaRusso and Rhett Mosher; sister Dianne Powell; along with other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Genevine Vanyo; son-in-law Steve (Buck) Adkinson; and brother-in-law Robert Powell.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt “special thank you” to Louise for the extraordinary care and compassion she provided to Joe. He truly loved you. And to his sister-in-law Betty Derby. He always looked forward to her weekly visits, and she always made sure he had his favorite donuts!
We love and miss you, Dad (Papa). You will forever be in our hearts.
A celebration of life of Joe’s life will be held on March 21st from 1:00 PM - 4:00PM at the Okauchee American Legion (N50 W34750 E Wisconsin Ave, Okauchee, WI 53069). Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories and honor a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to Joann LaRusso.
