Josefina Vargas

Josefina Vargas, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Fina,” passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, in Old Bridge, New Jersey, at the age of 82. Born on December 31, 1943, in the lush hills of San José de las Matas, Dominican Republic, she was a beacon of love and faith throughout her life.

Fina’s journey carried her from her beloved homeland to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where she created a warm and loving home for her family. A devoted mother to Marisol, Javier, and Lino Jr., and a cherished mother-in-law to Layda and Barbara, she poured her heart into caring for those closest to her. Her legacy lives on through her adored grandchildren—Alex, Isabella, Giselle, Kayla, Alyssa, and Alexa—who will forever carry her spirit of generosity and love in their hearts.

She found deep joy in homemaking, tending to her household with grace and quiet dedication. Her home became a place of refuge and comfort for her family, as well as a welcoming gathering spot filled with warmth and hospitality for friends and extended relatives. Guided by a strong Christian faith, Fina drew strength and purpose from her beliefs and found nourishment for her soul in religious retreats.

Fina will be remembered for her loving nature, her generous soul, and her unwavering faith. She gave freely of herself, seeking nothing in return but the happiness of her loved ones. Predeceased by her siblings Angela Vargas and Rafael Jaquez, she is survived by her brother Victor Jaquez and the rest of her family, who will miss her deeply. Though her passing leaves a void, the kindness, compassion, and faith she lived by will continue to inspire all who knew her.
