Jose Vaquera ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Robertson Claude Chapel on Mar. 17, 2026.Jose Legarreta Vaquera, 78, of Claude, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026.Cremation and arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors.Jose was born in Julimes, Chihuahua, Mexico, on February 27, 1948 to Amado and Joaquina Legarreta Vaquera. He was one of seven children raised in a close-knit family. On August 18, 1968, he married the love of his life, Maria Quiroga, in Julimes, Chihuahua. Together they built a life centered on family and hard work, and were blessed with four children.Jose and Maria lived in Memphis, Texas for 20 years before moving to Claude in 2003. Known for his strong work ethic, Jose worked for the Memphis Compress and later at a local feedlot. He was a very hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family and ensuring they never went without.A loving and devoted husband and father, Jose showed his love through dedication and example. Even during his downtime, he enjoyed staying busy, often tinkering around the house and finding small projects to work on. In his younger years, he especially enjoyed fishing at Greenbelt Lake.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Isidoro Vaquera.Jose is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Maria Vaquera of the home; four children, Omar Vaquera of Mexico, Zorayda Castro and husband Rene of Amarillo, Efren Vaquera and wife Gloria of Amarillo, and Joaquina Polk and husband Jonathan of League City, Texas; three brothers, Alfonso Vaquera, Manuel Vaquera, and Rosalio Vaquera; two sisters, Paula Sanchez and Andrea Olivas; 10 grandchildren, Jose Efren Vaquera, Lillianna Bonner, Adrien Vaquera, Sophie Vaquera, Vanessa Renee Baker, Nehemias Benjamin Castro, Jose Omar Vaquera, Ryan Vaquera, Jazmin Vaquera, and Cristian Polk; two great-grandchildren, Cirilla Baker and Guinevere Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
