Jose Benito Rael

March 21, 1939 March 11, 2026

Locust Fork, AL

Jose Rael, a distinguished individual known for his deep cultural roots and dedicated service, passed away on March 11, 2026. Born on March 21, 1939, in Colorado, Jose lived a life marked by profound commitment to his heritage, his family, and his country.

Throughout his lifetime, Jose nurtured a passion for hunting and fishing, activities that brought him closer to the natural world and reflected his profound respect for the environment. As an American Indian, he was deeply connected to his cultural ancestry and proudly served as Chief of the Sun Moon Dances, a role that took him across the globe, sharing and preserving this significant tradition. His military service was equally commendable, having served honorably in the Army.

Jose shared a loving marriage of 42 years with his wife, Phyllis Rael. Their partnership was a cornerstone of his life. Together, they raised a family that Jose cherished deeply. He is survived by Phyllis; three daughters, Jennifer Lipski, Dena McCay, Sandra Watson; and grandchildren Tara Dailey; Wade McCay; Coty McCay; Johnnie Smith (Tyler); Shane McCay; and Silas McCay. The strength and love of these family bonds were a central theme throughout his life.

His legacy is also marked by the memory of his children who preceded him in death: his daughter, Carla Jo Rodriguez, and his son, Daniel Aaron McCay. Their memories remain an integral part of the family narrative.

A visitation will be held on March 18, 2026, at the Cleveland Funeral Home, beginning at 11:00 AM and concluding at 12:00 PM. Following the visitation, a Funeral Service will be conducted at the same location from 12:00 PM until 12:30 PM. The burial will take place thereafter at Pine Bluff Cemetery in Locust Fork, Alabama, starting at 1:00 PM and concluding at 1:30 PM.

Jose Rael's life was a testament to dedication—to family, to culture, and to service. His enduring spirit and contributions will be remembered with respect and honor by all who had the privilege to know him.

Cleveland Funeral Home is honored to serve the Rael Family!
