Jose Goncalves ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Miller’s Tulare Funeral Home on Mar. 5, 2026.Jose (Joe) Augusto Goncalves passed away peacefully in Visalia, California, surrounded by his loving family, on March 4, 2026. He was 66 years old. He was born in Santa Luzia de Angra do Heroismo, Terceira, Azores in 1959. He was the third of eight children born to the late Pedro Vieira and Virginia Rocha Goncalves. In 1974, at the age of 14, like many families at the time, his family immigrated to the United States, from Biscoitos, Azores, and lived and worked on dairy farms throughout Tulare County for many years. He was a Herdsman for Bassett Farms and Lemstra Dairy for 31 years. He then finished his career at Kloeckner Metals working as a shear operator for 20 years before retiring at the age of 65. During his free time, he enjoyed playing cards and Dominos with his many friends and family often at the Tulare Angrense Athletic Club. You could sometimes even find him behind the bar helping out. Joe was always willing to lend a helpful hand in any situation or circumstance. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his most precious joys. When any of his grandchildren entered the room, he immediately lit up. He was wonderful with children, patient, generous with his time, playful, and very loving. He was involved for many years in Dancas Carnival. He loved watching soccer, especially Benfica, experiencing a highlight last year when he visited their stadium. He loved to travel, especially back home to the Azores, but he also enjoyed trips to the central coast and going on cruises. He was a man of faith. It was also within the last year he was blessed to visit Fatima something very special to him in his faith journey. The legacy he wanted and should be most remembered for was his integrity, being an honest man, true to his word, a loyal friend, and someone that loved his family unconditionally. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Anna De Lima Goncalves, their children, Alex Joseph Goncalves and Brian Lima Goncalves (Leslie). He is also survived by: his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ildanna Goncalves, Kaleb Brian Goncalves, and Averee Marie Goncalves; his siblings Pedro (Peter) Goncalves; Phyllis Garcia (Joe); Anna Paula Garza (Noe); and Diane Goncalves.
