Jonathan Layne Guthrie

Jonathan Layne Guthrie

September 30, 1969 March 14, 2026

Minden, LA

Jonathan Layne Guthrie was born on September 30, 1969, to Shirley Berry Guthrie and John William Guthrie Jr. From an early age, he showed a strong work ethic, landscaping for his church and helping his grandfather stock his bait stand. He excelled academically, graduating as Valedictorian of Minden High School in 1987 and Magna Cum Laude from Louisiana Tech University in 1991. His love of writing and interest in law led to a 25-year career as a federal probation officer, where he served both his clients and the public with dedication. After retiring, he continued his public service as a member of the Webster Parish School Board, where he advocated for higher teacher salaries and improved student safety.

Jonathan was known to many as “Goose” from his years of playing softball in church and city leagues, a sport he deeply enjoyed. A certified firearm safety instructor and passionate outdoorsman, he spent many happy hours hunting in Bellevue and fishing on Lake Bistineau. Above all, he was a dedicated public servant, a loving father, a devoted husband of thirty-three years to Robyn Reid Guthrie, a faithful church board member, and a cherished friend.

He is survived by his parents, his wife Robyn Reid Guthrie, his daughter Lauren Elizabeth Guthrie, his sister Kristi Parker, his brothers-in-law Christopher Whittington, Garland Parker, Ritchie Reid, and Jeromy Reid, his special aunt Rosi Caswell, his nieces Kylie Reid and Ashley Parker Thompson-Gardner and her husband Conner, his nephew Corbin Reid, and his great-nephew on the way, Harvey James Thompson-Gardner.

Jonathan lost his battle with cancer on March 14, 2026, but he was healed in his heavenly home, leaving behind a legacy that lives on in everyone who loved him and whose life he touched.
