Jonathan Cohen

March 26, 1957 March 7, 2026

New Paltz, NY

Jonathan David Cohen, a passionate family man, musician, entrepreneur, and beloved friend to many, passed away on March 7, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 26, 1957, he lived 68 vibrant years filled with music, innovation, and deep connections with others. He was cherished in the colorful Hudson Valley town of New Paltz and the sunny Summit community of Hollywood, Florida, where his warmth and presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Jon’s greatest devotion was to his family, which served as the soul and light of his life. His love, humor, and talents live on through his children and grandchildren, each carrying unique stories, experiences, and understanding of the bond they shared with him. He held profound respect and joy for his marriage and home life, embracing the dance of love with a constant gleam in his eye.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Ross-Cohen; his children, Elana Donmoyer (Jason), Joshua Cohen (Izabella), Jacob Cohen, and Jonah Cohen; and his grandchildren, Alexander and Noah. He is also survived by his mother, Barbara Nudelman (Meyers); his sister, Randi Marcus (Leonard); and their children, Jason (Madeleine) and Dana Marcus. Jon lived in honor of his late father, Philip Cohen, and his first wife, Sherry Cohen (Turek), whom he met in high school and with whom he began his entrepreneurial journey at Brooklyn College, opening his first storefront, Jonathan David.

A true visionary, Jon built businesses and relationships with grace and energy. He rooted for the underdog, lived by his principles, and fostered community wherever he went, even running for mayor and creating forums for open dialogue. With Amy, he created the Groovy Blueberry in the late 1990s, a beloved gathering place that brought joy and connection to students, families, and visitors alike. An avid guitarist who believed in the healing power of music, he made friends everywhere, encouraged authentic living, and touched everyone with his quick humor, generosity, kindness, and open heart. He will be remembered for his laughter, his music, and the profound love he shared so freely.
