Jonathan Austriaco ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home & Crematory - Historical Downtown Chapel on Mar. 5, 2026.Jonathan Buenviaje AustriacoApril 5, 1967 – March 4, 2026Jonathan Austriaco, 58, of Naperville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, surrounded by family. Jonathan was born on April 5, 1967 in Manila, Philippines, the youngest of seven children, to the late Jose Dumaguit Austriaco and the late Carolina Canon Buenviaje. He moved to Chicago at two years old and eventually to Oak Brook during his elementary school years. At Downers Grove North High School, Jon did well in his studies and was also physically active-in particular, he excelled in football, wrestling, tennis, softball, and martial arts. He also made friends easily and even dabbled musically, learning the organ and guitar. However, his genuine talent shone through his singing with his amazing voice and also through his impressive breakdancing moves. Jon graduated in economics and finance at the University of Illinois-Urbana, Champaign in 1989, where he met the love of his life, Sherry, and with whom he would be together for the next 37 years. Jon lived in downtown Chicago and attended CCUC, where he would begin his Christian faith journey, become a Christian, and get baptized in 1994. He and Sherry would eventually move from Chicago to Naperville to raise their three children, Joshua, Jessica, and Jonathan.Professionally, Jon moved from the business side to the technology side early in his career, leaving the world of futures and options trading on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and jumping into IT. God was in every step of his career, moving him from Northern Trust to Van Kampen, Morgan Stanley, and then, to JPMorgan Chase. Jon was a leader with an extensive track record of outstanding accomplishments, providing technology solutions that met demanding time constraints and exceeded expectations. He expertly developed scalable solutions that dramatically improved efficiency and productivity with a demonstrated ability to define and map project scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements throughout the full software development lifecycle. As in his participation in sports or using his voice to sing any number of songs, Jon thrived in every field, every organization, and every position that he had the privilege to experience in his career path.Jon also excelled in fixing, adjusting, building, repairing, and creating with his hands. His handiwork made home ownership much less stressful, but his ability to teach, especially his youngest son, was his true talent and gift. Even enduring the hardest chemotherapy and radiation treatments, targeted therapies, nuclear med, and jarring oral chemo days, these last four years as he battled metastasized cancer (the cancer spread to all his bones, which was beyondpainful on certain days), Jon would use the last handful of energy that he had to guide, advise, research, share, and physically demonstrate what he could when it came to all things repair and handyman to his son. Humor was yetanother of Jon's many gifts. His ability to make others laugh was incomparable; his humor was always well-timed and shared in his life with many-definitely an advantage during his volunteer service in church and working with middle-school and high school students! Strength is a good word to describe Jon, and even during the last year of frequent hospitalizations and harshness that his physical body endured, Jon was the strongest person physically, emotionally, psychologically, socially, and spiritually. He was a faithful servant, as witnessed by many closest to him, exemplifying the "good and faithful servant" to whom Jesus says, "Well done." Although an introvert and a man of few words,Jon will be remembered for the talents and gifts he shared generously with all, both personally and professionally.Jon is survived by his wife, Sherry; his children, Joshua, Jessica, and Jonathan; and extended family and dear friends; and although he loved his late, beloved first Rhodesian Ridgeback of 15 ½ years, he was able to enjoy the constantcompanionship of his new Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy–now of 10 months, Ronin. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Jon Austriaco may be made to support The Compass Church-Naperville (https://www.thecompass.net/Give), where Jon and Sherry have been attending for 29 years. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
