Jon R. Larson
September 15, 1945— March 7, 2026
Waterford, MI
Jon R. Larson passed peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on September 15, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to Norman E. and Lorraine E. Larson, he grew up to become a devoted family man and faithful servant.
Jon was the loving husband and soulmate of Jane L. Larson for more than 57 years. He was the beloved father of Wendy L. (Ronald) Fowler, Ingrid K. Larson (James A. Underwood), Natalie K. (Sean) Galloway, and Johanna M. Larson; the cherished grandfather of Justin (Sarah) Fowler, Hunter Fowler (Angie Justian), and Eoghan, Mazie, and Pierce Galloway; and the great-grandfather of Abigail, Elijah, Gideon, and Harrison Fowler. He was the brother of the late Thomas Larson and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends.
A United States Army veteran who served in Vietnam, Jon retired after 35 years with General Motors, primarily in the parts division. He was a devoted member of Waterford Community Church for nearly 47 years, where he served in the Boys Brigade and Awana programs after retirement. Known affectionately as “Big Jon,” he faithfully attended the weekly men’s Bible study known as “The Boiler Boys.” In his later years, he and a fellow church member visited nursing homes to share the gospel through word and song, a ministry he deeply cherished. He was known for his strong, distinctive voice that carried without need of a microphone. Jon also enjoyed long neighborhood walks, striking up conversations with anyone he met, and quietly observing the beauty of nature. A proud father of four daughters, he began each morning by texting them the same loving message: “Good morning sunshine, have a great day. Love, Mom and Dad.”
