Jon Phillip Southworth ObituaryPublished by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 10, 2026.Jon Phillip Southworth (Phil, Fish) was called home on February 28, 2026. Phil was born August 19, 1941 in Corning, NY to Vida May (Eggbeer) Southworth and Charles Squire Southworth. He is survived by his son Scott Southworth, sister Judith (Southworth) Hawk of Liverpool, NY and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Phil graduated from Lancaster Central High School in June 1959. In the summer of 1962 while bartending at Lancaster Country Club, he saw the cutest little waitress show up. Her name was Alexis and that was it for him. He married Alexis Hoyland Blake on July 19, 1966 in Charlotte, NC. His military service began in March 1965, when he began Russian language school at Syracuse University. He and Alexis were sent to West Berlin, Germany until 1969, where he served his country. He retired from USAF in 1970. In 1971, their son Scott was born. Phil retired from the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, MD in 2005. Phil was a devoted husband/father/community member. Until the end, Phil was an active member of his church, Wesley Grove United Methodist Church/Gathering Faith Community, for 50+ years. He originated "The Youth Group". His church and condo friends and loved ones enjoyed his humor and friendliness. Phil was kind to everyone. He enjoyed organizing Flag Day, wine night, Veteran's Day, Fourth of July celebrations, coaching youth soccer, taking vans full of teenagers to Kings Dominion, working pancake breakfasts, doing home dialysis with his wife, traveling, sudoku, cryptology, delivering food boxes, and going to bible study. His passion was to help and serve others - he truly was an anchor in anyone's storm. He loved his son, Scott, and his sister Judy fiercely - talking on the phone for hours and blaming the other for who wanted to talk the longest. Phil's quick wit and sense of humor was intact even in his last days. A celebration of life will be held at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church/ The Gathering Faith Community in Hanover, MD on June 27, 2026. A private internment will be held at a later date.
