John Winston Whitmore Sr.

John Winston Whitmore Sr. of Yorktown, Virginia, passed away on March 16, 2026, at the age of 98. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Frances Fuqua Whitmore and John Garland Whitmore, his sister Elizabeth Whitmore Jones, and his grandson Shaun Lee Whitmore. He is survived by his wife Ruth Shields Whitmore; his children, John Whitmore Jr. and Nina of Gloucester, Virginia, Kenneth Whitmore and Gina of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Hill and John of The Villages, Florida, and Nancy Mitchell and Ron of Yorktown, Virginia; his granddaughters, Shannon Wolpert and Michael of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Jaime Austin and Sean of Gloucester, Virginia, Megan Whitmore of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Karina Fisher and Christopher of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and his great-grandchildren, Abby Martin and Hunter, Michael Wolpert, Olivia Wolpert, and Madilyn Fisher.

John lived a long and full life, cherished by his family and friends who will remember him with deep affection. His quiet strength and steady presence left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him, particularly the generations that followed. He will be greatly missed by his wife Ruth and all who survive him.
