December 4, 1958— March 8, 2026
Houston, TX
John Wilmore, aged 67, passed away on March 8, 2026, after a courageous battle in the hospital.
Born on December 4, 1958, in Salisbury, England, to Brian and Mary Wilmore, John was an only child. With his father serving in the Air Force, he spent his early years living in various places across England and several years in Germany before the family settled in Stow-on-the-Wold. There he attended Westwoods Grammar School, played in the Chipping Norton Band alongside his father, and developed a lifelong passion for sport, particularly football and javelin. He went on to study at North Gloucestershire College of Art & Technology.
In 1982 John met Debbie, and they married in 1984. In 1993 the family moved to Houston, Texas with their daughters Kelly and Clare. John continued playing football, formed many lifelong friendships, and shared his deep love of music—often playing guitar—with his family. Kelly and Clare cherished the rich soundtrack of music that filled their childhood. Known for his sharp wit and cheeky sense of humour, John delighted in gently teasing those he loved. He was a devoted grandfather to Oli, Lucy, and Elliott, who will always remember his silly faces and warm hugs. Proud of his Irish heritage, he held fond memories of childhood visits to relatives in County Wexford and returned with Debbie in 2013 to reconnect with his many cousins.
John had a special affection for animals and ensured there was always a dog in the family; Holly was his faithful companion for many years, later succeeded by Joplin. He also loved birds, maintaining an array of feeders and houses in the garden and regularly travelling to Port Aransas to photograph migratory birds and wildlife. He is survived by his wife Debbie, daughters Kelly and Clare and their partners Nathan and Peter, and grandchildren Oli, Lucy, and Elliott. He leaves behind family in the UK including his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sharon and David Redbond, nephews and niece Luke, Craig, Jay, and Verity and their partners, great-nephews and nieces, as well as his cousin Vivienne and her family. John will be deeply missed and remembered with love by his family and many friends.
