Browns Mills, NJ
John Wesley Newman II, 84, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2026, in Browns Mills, New Jersey. Born on October 22, 1941, in Trenton, New Jersey, he lived a life centered on deep devotion to family, pride in his craftsmanship, and a lifelong love of the arts.
Affectionately known as “Bebop,” John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Newman. He is survived by his brother Fred, his sister Sharon, and his children: John Wesley Newman III and his wife Colleen, Suzanne Newman, and Carlton Newman. He was the proud grandfather of Alexis and her husband Kaleb, John Wesley Newman IV, Claire, Dominic, Indigo, and Maria, and the great-grandfather of Leiland and Wesley. As family patriarch, he embraced his role with quiet strength, offering steady guidance, care, and unwavering support to those he loved.
For many years, John worked as a skilled carpenter at American Standard, where his craftsmanship and personal integrity earned the lasting respect of his colleagues. Outside of work, he was a remarkably creative man who enjoyed painting, drawing, playing the guitar, and listening to music. His artwork revealed a keen eye for detail and an ability to find beauty in ordinary moments. He also cherished smoking cigars, watching movies, and sharing meals at the Pandora Diner. John had a special fondness for giving out nicknames, and his warm smile, hearty laugh, and playful twinkle in his eye could lift the spirits of everyone around him.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends for the comfort, laughter, and encouragement he so freely gave. His legacy endures in the love he shared and the cherished memories he leaves behind.
