John Waynord Hix

John Waynord Hix, age 80, of Boaz, Alabama, passed away on March 4, 2026, at his residence. Born on March 25, 1945, to Lee Roy and Delores Hix, John served the City of Albertville for more than 32 years in the fire service, retiring as Fire Chief. He was a talented musician who loved picking guitar, mandolin, and harmonica, and singing with friends. He also worked as a cattle farmer for many years and held his family close to his heart.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jennie Lacey Hix; sons Brad Hix (Tammy) and Lee Hix (Tina); grandchildren Emily Chapman (Justin), Carson Hix, Mary Catherine Albrecht (Mike), and John Tyner Hix (Kaylee); great-grandchildren Darik Chapman, Baker Hix, Latham Albrecht, and Lawson Albrecht; sisters Barbara Corbin and Joan Kinney; a host of nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Dixie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Joyce Corbin, Earlene Spurlin, and Judy Johnson.

John cherished the weekly music gatherings with the Thursday Pickers for more than eight years and was deeply grateful for the care provided by Shepherd’s Cove Hospice and the continued support of the Albertville Fire Department.
