John W. Strauss

John W. Strauss

July 31, 1967 March 8, 2026

Dana Point, CA

John Walter Strauss, a devoted father and loving husband, unexpectedly passed away on March 8, 2026, at the age of 58. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 31, 1967, John embraced the things he loved most throughout his life: family, music, and cheering for his favorite sports teams, including the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears, and the Las Vegas Raiders.

John worked as a software consultant in the professional services industry, yet his greatest joy came from quiet moments at home with his family. He played guitar with genuine talent and created memorable times through music with his band the Modern Relics and friends Rob and Keith. Whether sharing favorite songs, watching beloved movies, or celebrating at sports events as the spirited Raiderstein, he brought laughter and creativity to every gathering.

In 2018, John moved to Southern California to be near his brother Rick and sister Jen. There he met Carolyn, the love of his life. Their marriage was a beautiful second chance for both, marked by a rare and constant companionship. They married on their favorite beach in Dana Point, California, and shared seven cherished years together. John took immense pride in his children, his eyes lighting up whenever he spoke of their accomplishments and the adults they had become.

John shared a deep bond with his mother, Cinde, rooted in their committed Catholic faith. He was a Knight of Columbus and found meaning in serving his community. He is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn, daughter Tegan, son Tyler, stepdaughter Cassidy, stepson Tyler, and grandson Jackson, as well as his mother Cinde, stepfather Bob, sister Jen, brothers Rick and Chris, stepbrother Bob, and aunts Judy and Wendy. His vibrant presence, love of life, and warm laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
