John Thomas Herndon

June 2, 1940 March 12, 2026

Forsyth, GA

John Thomas Herndon passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026. Born on June 2, 1940, in Forsyth, Georgia, to the late Myrtice and Cullen Herndon, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who lived a life defined by quiet integrity and deep affection for those he loved.

After graduating from Mary Persons High School, John began his career with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1977. He then worked as a real estate developer and builder. A longtime Mason, he was a member of Strict Observance Lodge #18 in Forsyth for more than 50 years, guided by the principles of brotherly love and truth. He found great satisfaction in serving his community and maintaining loyal friendships throughout his life.

Above all, John cherished his family. He married the love of his life, Joyce, in 1980, and his greatest joy in later years was spending time with her and watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his loyalty to his brothers and friends, his wonderful sense of humor, and the steady example he set through a life well lived.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Herndon, and granddaughter, Madaline Jones. John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Herndon; children, Lissa Suda (Paul) of Alpharetta, Michael Jones of Warner Robins, Chandler Jones (Cheryl) of Warner Robins, and Terry Jones (Tracy) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Olivia Brookman (Jordan), Justin Suda, Ethan Suda, and Kayleigh Jones; and great-grandchildren, Orion Brookman and Evangeline Brookman.
