John Robert Leary, Jr.

John Robert Leary, Jr., 81, passed away on March 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born on March 4, 1945, in Anderson, Indiana, he was the son of John Robert and Margery Jean (Cross) Leary, Sr. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later dedicated many years of hard work to General Motors before retiring.

Known as J.R. or Joe Joe to his family, John had an undeniable zest for life. He greeted everyone with a warm hello and a smile, finding joy in simple pleasures such as a sunny day, good food, and time spent with family and friends. A true racecar enthusiast, he shared this passion with his father and brother. He was also a proud member of the Fortville VFW Post 6904 and the Fortville American Legion Post 391, and he looked forward each year to attending the Indiana State Fair with his daughter and granddaughter.

John is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Pastrick (Tony); his granddaughter, Olivia Pastrick; his best friend, Faye Lindsay; his brother, George Leary; his nephew, Matt Leary; and his nieces, Kristi Brown and Rachel Starr (Nick). He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
