John Robert Leary, Jr.

John Robert Leary, Jr., 81, passed away on March 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.Born on March 4, 1945, in Anderson, Indiana, John was the son of John Robert and Margery Jean (Cross) Leary, Sr. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later dedicated many years of hard work to General Motors before retiring.John, known as J. R. or Joe Joe to his family had an undeniable zest for life. Whenever you saw John, you were guaranteed to be greeted with a warm "hello" and smile. The simple things brought John the most joy: a sunny day, good food, and time with family and friends.John was a proud member of the Fortville VFW Post 6904 and the Fortville American Legion Post 391. He was a true racecar enthusiast. This passion was something he shared with his father and brother. John also enjoyed going to the Indiana State Fair every year with his daughter and granddaughter.John is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Pastrick (Tony); his granddaughter, Olivia Pastrick; his best friend, Faye Lindsay; his brother, George Leary; his nephew, Matt Leary; and his nieces, Kristi Brown and Rachel Starr (Nick). He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at Seals Funeral Home, 122 W. Staat Street, Fortville. Visitation will take place from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.Burial will be in Gravel Lawn Cemetery.Memorial gifts may be made to the honor guards of V.F.W.
