John Richard Hileman

John Richard Hileman, 82, of Wendell, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, with his loving wife and daughter by his side.

Born on September 1, 1943, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, to the late Richard Doyle and Elinor Stimmel Hileman, John earned a BA from Hiram College and a master’s degree from California State College. His deep passion for mathematics shaped a long and fulfilling career as a math educator in Western Pennsylvania and Montgomery County, Maryland, and later as an adjunct math professor at Mount Saint Mary’s in Maryland. Colleagues and students alike appreciated his ability to make complex concepts clear, often recalling facts through what he called a “simple” mathematical equation.

John found great joy in time spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, singer, reader, and athlete who played softball and tennis. He also cherished antiquing and traveling in his RV. Above all, he lived life fully, embracing every pleasure it offered. Those who knew him will remember him as a brilliant man of integrity, love, compassion, and a caring heart.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Harold, Gene, Thomas, and Eileen. John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosemary Hileman; his daughters, Leigh Hileman-Steele (Josh) and Kirsten Fenton (David); and his cherished grandchildren, Henry Steele, Taylor Fenton, and David Fenton III.
