He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Hammond and Nellie Hammond (Eng); his former wife Betty Jane Powers; his wife Ona Happel; his siblings, Delores (Edwin Daffinson) of Ettrick, Ila Mae (Emerald Daffinson) of Galesville, Elaine (Wendell Stephan) of Trempealeau, George "Bud" Hammond (Lousie), Marion Hammond, Grace Hammond and William Hammond of Galesville; and his in-laws, Joseph, Vinnett Powers, Dick, Dorothy Eggenberger, Donald, Mrytle "Tiny" Pierce, Arvid, Mildred "Pat" Evenson, Frances "Jackie" McFadden-Eggenberger and William Powers.
He is survived by: his son Terry (Sue); his grandsons, Todd and William; his son Michael; his grandsons, Nicholas and Alex; his stepchildren, Randolph Happel (Julie), Vicki Engevold, William Happel (Kathy), Kenne Happel (Clare) and Gail Happel; and his sister-in-law Nancy Powers. He is also survived by many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Trempealeau United Methodist Church (24255 4th St, Trempealeau, WI 54661). A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to: Trempealeau United Methodist Church, 24255 4th St. Trempealeau WI 54661, or the Gundersen Medical Foundation-Cardiac Fund, 1836 South Ave., La Crosse WI. 54601.
